We arrive in Ennis

Tuesday, July 9, 2019

The overnight trip to Shannon, Ireland from Rochester via JFK was uneventful, if tedious.  Although Victor got some sleep, Gil and Joyce got almost none, but looked pretty good despite the tiredness.

We met up with most of our Road Scholar group at the Shannon airport; two had arrived earlier.  The group is made up of five children (three boys and two girls) and six grandparents (Gil is the only one to have two grandparents with him).  Gil fell asleep in the small bus carrying us to Ennis, only about 45 minutes from the Shannon airport.

The Temple Gate Hotel is on the site of a former nunnery, and is lovely and quiet. After checking in, we went to our room and promptly fell asleep for a couple of hours; orientation was at 4:30 and after that we took a short walk out of the hotel.  There is a large courtyard just outside of the hotel:

The town is filled with beautiful flowers:

There much more to explore, but it was time for dinner, which was a three-course feast.  We cannot eat like this every meal!  Tomorrow we start our touring with a trip to Galway, and in the evening traditional Irish music.
